“Demand for Babies for Adoption Contributes To Baby Trafficking,” Malaysian Digest, 10/10/2012

“Buying of babies for adoption by childless couples contributes to the occurrence of baby trafficking in this country.

Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Heng Seai Kie (pic) said the other contributing factors to this racket were poverty, unpaid debts, giving birth to babies out of wedlock or just deliberate selling of babies to make quick money.

Heng said according to the statistics, there were 32 baby trafficking cases recorded in the country since 2010, comprising 13 cases in 2010, 11 in 2011 and eight in the first seven months of 2012.”
