Inside the Courtroom: Heidy Par / “Kimberli Azucena” Hearing

This week, the morning of August 16, 2011, the Second Tribunal Court of Criminal Sentencing in Guatemala City, Guatemala held a hearing related to the abduction of Heidy Saraí Batz Par, a baby believed to have been sold into an adoption network.

  1. If my translation is correct, I believe Abner Ludwing Cifuentes Peralta and Virgina Velásquez Revolorio (who physically abducted Heidy) were sentenced yesterday to 12 years in prison. Sobrevivientes posted on Facebook about it.

    This is a very similar sequence of events to the Anyeli case, in that people who were involved in the kidnapping and/or trafficking were imprisoned, and then the adoption was annulled in another case brought by Sobrevivientes.

    Perhaps we going to see the same adoption annulments for Heidy and Arlene, in which case, the adoptive parents of Heidy (if she is in the US) and Arlene (in Illinois) would be wise to come forward.
